Motorstötar is a Swedish term that translates to "engine knock" or "pinging" in English. It describes an abnormal combustion sound that occurs in an internal combustion engine. This phenomenon arises when the air-fuel mixture in the cylinder ignites prematurely or uncontrollably, rather than burning smoothly at the intended time.

The sound is typically a sharp, metallic pinging or rattling noise that can vary in intensity. Motorstötar is often heard during acceleration or when the engine is under a heavy load.
