Monomeerikoostumus, also known as polymerization, is a chemical process where smaller molecules, called monomers, combine to form larger molecules called polymers. This process is fundamental in the creation of various materials, including plastics, rubbers, and synthetic fibers. The monomers typically have a reactive site, such as a double bond or a functional group, which allows them to link together through chemical reactions.

There are two primary types of polymerization: addition polymerization and condensation polymerization. Chain-growth polymerization involves the sequential addition of monomers to a growing polymer chain, often initiated by a catalyst. Step-growth polymerization, on the other hand, occurs through the random linking of monomers, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional network.
