mode2
Mode 2 is one of the charging modes defined for electric vehicles (EVs) in international standards. It refers to charging with a portable electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) connected between a standard AC mains outlet and the vehicle. It relies on a control pilot (CP) line to convey charging state and to limit current, and a proximity pilot (PP) to confirm that a suitable connector and that the cable is connected. The portable EVSE provides overload and short‑circuit protection, and the installation typically includes a residual current device (RCD) for earth leakage protection. The charging current is limited by the electrical circuit and the capability of the EVSE, commonly up to about 16 amps in many households (approximately 3.7 kW at 230 V), with higher limits possible (up to 32 A in some regions) when the circuit and plug support it.
Mode 2 is designed for use with a standard household outlet and a portable EVSE, making it
It's important to distinguish Mode 2 from Mode 3 and Mode 4. Mode 2 is for AC
