Immunosuppressive refers to a condition or the act of suppressing the body's immune system. Genetic disorders affecting the immune system can also result in primary immunodeficiency, leading to recurrent infections.

Individuals who are immunosuppressed require careful management and monitoring to minimize the risk of serious complications. This often involves preventive measures like vaccinations (when appropriate for their specific condition), avoiding exposure to infectious agents, and prompt treatment of any infections that may arise.
