Misspell is the act of spelling a word incorrectly. As a noun, misspelling refers to the error itself, and as a verb phrase it describes the process of producing such an error. Misspellings arise from several factors. English orthography is irregular, with many words retaining historic pronunciations or spellings that no longer match speech.
