Mineraalitekstuurides, or mineral textures, refers to the visual and physical characteristics of a rock as determined by the size, shape, arrangement, and relationships of its constituent mineral grains. These textures provide crucial information about the conditions under which the rock formed and any subsequent geological processes it has undergone.

Common mineral textures include phaneritic, where mineral grains are large enough to be seen with the naked eye, indicative of slow cooling, typically in intrusive igneous rocks. Aphanitic textures, conversely, feature fine-grained minerals, often appearing as a single mass, suggesting rapid cooling, characteristic of extrusive igneous rocks. Porphyritic texture describes a rock with larger, well-formed crystals (phenocrysts) embedded in a finer-grained matrix, indicating a two-stage cooling history.

Other important textures include glassy, with no visible crystals formed by extremely rapid cooling, and vesicular, containing numerous small cavities (vesicles) left by escaping gas in volcanic rocks. Sedimentary rocks exhibit textures like clastic, composed of fragments of pre-existing rocks and minerals, and crystalline, formed by the precipitation of minerals from a solution. Metamorphic rocks can display textures like foliated, with minerals aligned in parallel layers due to directed pressure, and non-foliated, where minerals are randomly oriented. Studying these textures is fundamental to understanding a rock's origin and history.
