Mikrovågsfältet, also known as the microwave field, refers to the region of space where electromagnetic radiation in the microwave frequency range is present. Microwaves are a form of non-ionizing electromagnetic radiation, falling between radio waves and infrared radiation on the electromagnetic spectrum. Their frequencies typically range from 300 megahertz (MHz) to 300 gigahertz (GHz), corresponding to wavelengths from one meter down to one millimeter.

These fields are generated by various sources, including microwave ovens, radar systems, telecommunications equipment, and certain scientific instruments. In a microwave oven, magnetrons generate microwaves that are directed into the cooking chamber. These waves cause water molecules in food to vibrate, generating heat through dielectric heating.

The interaction of microwave fields with matter depends on the material's properties, particularly its dielectric constant and conductivity. For living organisms, microwave radiation can cause heating effects. However, at typical exposure levels, such as those encountered from consumer devices, the heating effect is generally considered negligible and not a cause for concern according to international safety guidelines.
