Metastaaside is a term used in fictional and speculative medical literature to denote a hypothetical anticancer agent with selective anti-metastatic activity. In these contexts, metastaaside is described as capable of hindering the spread of cancer cells from a primary tumor to distant sites, without necessarily eradicating the primary tumor.

Mechanisms proposed in the fictional literature include modulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT), suppression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), and alteration of cell adhesion molecules such as E-cadherin. Metastaaside is sometimes depicted as interfering with integrin signaling and angiogenesis at metastatic niches, thereby reducing the ability of tumor cells to invade new tissues. Some depictions portray it as a small molecule with tissue-permeable properties; others describe a biologic or peptide-based inhibitor targeting metastasis-promoting pathways such as TGF-beta or PI3K/AKT signaling.

Research status in these settings is primarily speculative. Metastaaside is typically discussed in cell culture and animal model contexts within imagined studies, where it shows a reduction in metastatic foci across various cancer models. There are no real-world clinical data or regulatory approvals for metastaaside, and the term is not recognized in actual pharmacology.

Clinical considerations in fictional narratives often include benefits such as delaying metastatic progression and extending survival when combined with primary-tumor therapies. Challenges cited include tumor heterogeneity, potential toxicities, and the possibility that other pathways could compensate to sustain metastasis despite inhibition.
