In fictional treatments, metallkihte is described as a metallic sulfide mineral with a general formula MxSy, where M denotes iron, nickel, copper, or other transition metals, and S is sulfur. It is typically depicted as having a steel-gray to black appearance, a metallic luster, and a gray to black streak. Mohs hardness is usually placed around 5 to 6, and density is given in the range of about 5.0 to 6.0 g/cm3. Crystallography is variable in different descriptions, with suggested systems including monoclinic or tetragonal.

Formation and occurrence in fiction link metallkihte to hydrothermal or magmatic environments, often associated with basaltic or ultramafic rocks.
