This metadata itself is also a form of code or data, creating a dependency loop. Similarly, in linguistics, a metadependent construction could involve a phrase or clause whose grammatical function or meaning is determined by another phrase or clause of the same type within the same sentence.

The concept can also be applied to organizational structures, where a sub-department's responsibilities are defined in relation to the broader departmental goals, and those goals are in turn defined by the overarching organizational mission.
