Megbízatás is a Hungarian legal term that translates to "mandate," "commission," or "entrustment" in English. It refers to a contract where one party, the principal (megbízó), entrusts another party, the agent or mandatary (megbízott), with the execution of one or more specific tasks or services. The agent undertakes to perform these tasks on behalf of and in the interest of the principal.

This type of contract is typically gratuitous, meaning the agent does not receive payment for their services unless otherwise agreed upon. However, if the agent undertakes the task in the course of their business or profession, remuneration is presumed. The agent is obligated to perform the entrusted tasks diligently and in accordance with the principal's instructions. They must also keep the principal informed about the progress of the tasks and account for any expenses incurred.

The principal, in turn, is generally obliged to reimburse the agent for any reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out the mandate. If the mandate is not gratuitous, the principal must pay the agreed-upon remuneration. The contract can be terminated by either party, often with reasonable notice, unless specific conditions dictate otherwise. Megbízatás is a common legal framework for various arrangements, including agency agreements, power of attorney, and certain types of professional services where one party acts on behalf of another.
