Megal ity is a term used in some academic and popular contexts to denote extreme size or scale. It is not a formal scientific category with a single, universally accepted definition. Instead, megality functions as a comparative or qualitative notion used to discuss things noticeably larger than typical references within a given field.

Etymology: The word combines Greek mega 'large' with a suffix modeled after -lity (as in quality or state). It has no standard derived unit and is used inconsistently.

Applications and usage: In archaeology, megality can describe the scale of megalithic monuments relative to surrounding landscape. In design and architectural discourse, it can refer to the intentional creation of megastructures that dominate their environment. In science communication, megality is sometimes used to convey gigantism in natural and human-made systems without relying on precise measurements.

Measurement and assessment: Because there is no standard definition, researchers usually specify their own criteria, such as footprint area, volume, mass, or visual dominance within the landscape.
