Meelalahkusehäirete, also known as dissociative disorders, are a group of mental health conditions characterized by a disruption in the usually integrated functions of consciousness, memory, identity, emotion, perception, body representation, motor control, and behavior. These disorders are often a response to trauma, such as abuse or neglect, as the mind dissociates to cope with overwhelming experiences.

The most commonly recognized dissociative disorder is Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), formerly known as multiple personality disorder. DID involves the presence of two or more distinct personality states or an experience of possession. Other dissociative disorders include dissociative amnesia, where an individual is unable to recall important personal information, usually of a traumatic or stressful nature, and depersonalization-derealization disorder, characterized by persistent or recurrent feelings of being detached from oneself or one's surroundings.

Symptoms can vary widely and may include memory gaps, a sense of unreality, confusion about identity, and emotional detachment. The severity and presentation of these disorders can significantly impact an individual's daily life, relationships, and functioning. Diagnosis typically involves a comprehensive psychological evaluation. Treatment often includes psychotherapy, with a focus on trauma processing, developing coping mechanisms, and integrating dissociated aspects of the self. Medication may be used to manage co-occurring conditions like depression or anxiety.
