matrixlijn

Matrixlijn is not a standard term in formal Dutch mathematics. In many cases it is used informally to refer to a line or a row within a matrix, or to a row vector, but the precise, commonly accepted terms are different.

In standard terminology, a matrix is a two-dimensional array of numbers. Its horizontal slices are called rows (rijen) and its vertical slices are called columns (kolommen). A row with n entries is a 1 by n matrix, often called a row vector (rijvector). A column with m entries is an m by 1 matrix, often called a column vector (kolomvector). Access to a specific row or column is commonly described by its index, for example the i-th row or the j-th column of a matrix.

If the intended meaning of matrixlijn is a geometric line, then that concept belongs to Euclidean geometry rather than to matrices. A line in two or three dimensions is described by equations such as y = mx + b or by a parametric form. In linear algebra, lines arise as solution sets of linear equations; the matrix form Ax = b encodes these equations, and the set of solutions can form a line (an affine subspace) when appropriate.
