Mathbfrun is a term used in mathematical discourse to describe a class of sequence transformations that combines run-length information with a base-B encoding scheme. It is not a single widely standardized construct; rather, it appears in a family of related ideas used in theoretical analyses of sequence representation and, occasionally, in algorithmic discussions about data compression and time-series analysis.

Formal definition: Let a1, a2, ..., an be a finite sequence over a numeric field and B > 1. Partition the sequence into maximal runs of identical values. For each run with value v and length l, encode the run as the block v · B^l. The mathbfrun transform of the sequence is the concatenation of these blocks in the order of the runs. The transform is invertible if the base B, the value sequence, and the run-length structure are known and if the numerical blocks do not overlap ambiguously. Example: sequence 2,2,2,3,3,1 with B = 10 yields runs (2,3), (3,2), (1,1) and the transformed blocks 2000, 300, 10.
