massiivipuute

Massiivipuute is a Finnish term referring to the construction method of using large, solid timber elements as the primary structural components of a building. These elements are typically made from glulam (glued laminated timber) or solid wood panels, often referred to as cross-laminated timber (CLT). Unlike traditional timber framing which uses smaller, spaced lumber, massiivipuute employs substantial, load-bearing timbers that form walls, floors, and roofs.

This construction technique has roots in traditional Finnish log building but has evolved significantly with modern engineering and manufacturing processes. The large timber elements are often prefabricated off-site, allowing for rapid assembly on the construction site. This prefabrication can lead to reduced construction times and improved quality control.

Massiivipuute offers several advantages. Timber is a renewable resource, and buildings constructed with it can have a lower embodied carbon footprint compared to concrete or steel structures.
