Marketability refers to the ease with which a product, service, idea, or person can be marketed to a target audience and converted into sales or opportunities. It reflects perceived value relative to competing options and is influenced by market demand, competition, price sensitivity, branding, distribution, and the credibility of the seller.

For products and services, marketability encompasses features, quality, packaging, positioning, and the ability to reach a preferred consumer segment through appropriate channels. It also depends on pricing, promotions, availability, and the reputation of the brand or organization behind it.

The concept also applies to individuals, talent, and ideas. For people, marketability includes skills breadth, relevance to labor market demand, credentials, communication and presentation, portfolio or track record, and network access, as well as geographic or logistical feasibility of engagement.

Measurement typically uses market research and performance metrics such as market size, share, growth rate, price elasticity, brand awareness, sales velocity, conversion rates, and customer willingness to pay. Qualitative assessments of fit with customer needs are also important.

Strategies to improve marketability often involve alignment with customer needs, differentiation, quality improvements, branding, pricing optimization, and channel development for products; and upskilling, credentialing, portfolio development, and networking for individuals.

Limitations include that marketability is not the same as intrinsic value, and can be affected by external factors such as economic conditions, trends, and ethics. A marketable proposition may still fail if it does not deliver sustained value or if consumer preferences shift.
