Mangrovaträsk is the Swedish term for a mangrove swamp or mangrove forest, a coastal wetland ecosystem dominated by salt-tolerant trees and shrubs that colonize the intertidal zones of tropical and subtropical coastlines. The name combines mangrova, from the English mangrove, with träsk, Swedish for swamp.

Mangroves are adapted to brackish water, daily salinity changes, and waterlogged, low-oxygen soils. They develop specialized root systems, such as prop roots and pneumatophores, that support gas exchange and stabilization. Their distribution spans tidal flats, estuaries, and lagoons, with distinct zones defined by species composition.

Typical mangrove species include the red mangrove (Rhizophora), black mangrove (Avicennia), and white mangrove (Laguncularia), along with others in genera such as Bruguiera and Sonneratia. The forests host a diverse community of animals, including crabs, mollusks, fish nurseries, waterfowl, and various insects.

Mangrovaträsk provides important ecosystem services: coastline protection from storm surges, sediment stabilization, and substantial carbon storage known as blue carbon. They also support fisheries and provide resources for local communities through timber, honey, and traditional medicines in some regions.

Threats include deforestation for aquaculture and development, pollution, invasive species, and climate-change-driven sea level rise. Conservation efforts focus on protected areas, restoration projects, sustainable harvesting practices, and integrating mangrove preservation into coastal planning and climate adaptation strategies.
