It lies on a sheltered bay along the Valaran coast, covering about 18 square kilometers. The climate is temperate with dry summers and mild winters; the landscape includes olive groves and rocky shores.

History: Settled in the medieval period, Mallinta developed as a fishing and trading port. It gained town rights in the 14th century and modernized with the arrival of the railway in the late 19th century. The harbor has remained central to its economy.
