Maksabiopsia, also known as a liver biopsy, is a medical procedure to obtain a small sample of liver tissue for examination. This sample is then analyzed under a microscope by a pathologist to help diagnose liver diseases or monitor their progression. It is a valuable diagnostic tool used when other tests are inconclusive or to determine the severity of a known liver condition.

The procedure can be performed in several ways. Percutaneous liver biopsy is the most common, where a needle is inserted through the skin into the liver, usually between the ribs. Transjugular liver biopsy is used for patients with bleeding disorders or ascites (fluid in the abdomen) and involves inserting a needle through a vein in the neck. Laparoscopic liver biopsy is done during surgery using a laparoscope, a thin, lighted tube inserted through a small incision.

Before a liver biopsy, patients typically undergo blood tests to assess clotting ability. They may also need to avoid certain medications, like blood thinners. During the procedure, local anesthesia is usually administered. Patients are monitored for a period afterward to check for any complications, such as bleeding.
