Origins: Scholars place the maitsvaids in the Maitsa valley, a temperate river basin imagined to have formed during a period of climate fluctuations several centuries ago. The early community reportedly formed around communal granaries, water management systems, and shared craft workshops.

Language and names: The language, called Maitsvian, is described as an agglutinative tongue with a subject–object–verb order; it has vocabulary emphasizing social relations, environment, and reciprocity. The ethnonym maitsvaid derives from mait- meaning "mutual" and -svaid meaning "insider" in Maitsvian.

Culture and economy: Cultural life centers on seasonal cycles, storytelling, weaving, and music that signals cooperative work. The economy is described as largely communal, with resource pooling, local exchange, and neighborly aid networks; disputes are resolved through restorative assemblies rather than punitive law.

Present status: In most depictions, maitsvaids live in dispersed communities across several fictional regions and maintain diaspora networks sharing Maitsvian language features and cultural practices. They appear in worldbuilding texts and speculative fiction rather than real-world ethnography.
