mGluR1b
mGluR1b is a splice variant of the metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 (mGluR1). Glutamate is the primary excitatory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system, and metabotropic glutamate receptors are a family of G protein-coupled receptors that modulate neuronal excitability and synaptic transmission. There are eight known mGluR subtypes, divided into three groups based on sequence homology, pharmacology, and signaling pathways. mGluR1, along with mGluR5, belongs to Group I mGluRs.
The gene encoding mGluR1 undergoes alternative splicing, giving rise to several isoforms, including mGluR1a, mGluR1b, mGluR1c,
mGluR1b is primarily expressed in the cerebellum, particularly in the Purkinje cells and the deep cerebellar
