In standard usage the preferred form is mérhetőség; mérhetség is a less common variant that may appear in some contexts or dialects.

Etymology and scope: the word is built from mérni (to measure) plus a suffix meaning ability, and the general noun-forming suffix -ség. The concept spans practical measurement in science and engineering, as well as theoretical notions in mathematics and philosophy.

In scientific and empirical contexts, mérhetőség underpins the operalization of variables: objects or states must be measurable to obtain data, compare results, and test hypotheses.
