This pairing evokes a spine-like, linear arrangement of components along a central axis, akin to a vertebral column. The imagery is often used to describe a modular, distributed set of temperature-sensing elements.

Conceptual design and operation are typically described in hypothetical terms. A lämppötilanikaman would consist of a backbone or flexible frame with multiple temperature sensors placed at regular intervals. Each segment houses a sensor (such as an RTD, thermistor, or semiconductor temperature sensor) and communicates data to a central processor. The resulting data provide a high-resolution temperature profile along the length, enabling detailed mapping of thermal gradients in a structure, body, or robotic system.
