luoton

Luoton is a term used in speculative physics to denote a hypothetical light neutral particle proposed as a mediator of a new fundamental interaction beyond the Standard Model. It is not part of the established model, and there is no experimental confirmation of its existence; the concept appears in various theoretical frameworks with differing concrete details.

Models treat luotons as either spin-0 bosons or spin-1 vector particles, with masses ranging from sub-eV to GeV scales. They are typically assumed to couple weakly to Standard Model fields via portal interactions, such as kinetic mixing with a photon or Yukawa-type couplings to leptons and quarks. In many scenarios, luotons serve to connect a hidden or dark sector to visible matter, acting as mediators of a feebly interacting force or as carriers of dark matter interactions.

Experimentally, no direct signal has been observed. Searches for rare meson decays, deviations in precision electroweak measurements, beam-dump experiments, collider missing-energy signatures, and astrophysical observations place constraints on possible masses and couplings. The allowed parameter space is model-dependent and continuously updated by new data.

Luoton is often discussed alongside related hypothetical particles such as axions, dark photons, and millicharged particles. In fiction or thought experiments, luotons may be invoked to illustrate ideas about hidden sectors or additional forces, but they remain speculative in scientific discourse.
