Luettelointiviitteet, often translated as "enumerated references" or "list references," is a Finnish term used in academic and technical writing. It refers to a method of citing sources within the text of a document that corresponds to a numbered list of references at the end of the work. This system is distinct from author-date citation styles or footnote/endnote systems.

In a luettelointiviitteet system, a numerical marker, typically enclosed in square brackets or parentheses, is placed directly after the information or quotation being cited. For example, a sentence might conclude with [1] or (2). Each number corresponds to a specific source listed in the bibliography or reference section. This section is usually titled "Luettelo viitteistä" or simply "Viitteet."

The key advantage of this system is its simplicity and clarity, especially in documents with a large number of sources. It allows readers to quickly identify the origin of specific pieces of information by cross-referencing the in-text number with the numbered entry in the reference list. This method is commonly found in scientific papers, technical reports, and theses where precise attribution is crucial and the volume of references can be substantial.
