A logistieknetwerk is a structured system that coordinates the flow of goods, information and services from suppliers to customers within a specified geographic area. It consists of networked nodes such as suppliers, manufacturers, warehouses, distribution centers, transport operators, and customers, linked by transportation routes, information systems and contractual relationships. The primary objective of a logistieknetwerk is to optimize the overall performance of the supply chain by ensuring that products are delivered on time, in the right quantity and at the lowest possible cost.

Key functions of a logistieknetwerk include procurement, inventory management, transportation planning, warehousing, order fulfillment and reverse logistics. These functions are supported by technologies such as enterprise resource planning (ERP), transportation management systems (TMS), warehouse management systems (WMS) and real‑time tracking tools, which provide visibility and enable decision‑making across the network.

There are several types of logistieknetwerken. A centralized network consolidates activities in a single location, while a decentralized network distributes facilities across multiple sites to improve responsiveness. Hybrid networks combine elements of both strategies. Networks can also be organized around specific industries – for example, perishable food logistics require rapid temperature control and short lead times, whereas heavy equipment logistics focus on large‑volume transport and long‑term storage.

Metrics such as delivery reliability, inventory turnover, transportation cost per unit and carbon footprint are routinely monitored to assess performance. Continuous improvement initiatives, such as lean logistics and digital transformation, help organizations adapt to changing demand patterns, regulatory requirements and technological advances.
