Lisavalgustus is a term used in Estonian to denote supplementary lighting, i.e., lighting added in addition to existing light sources to achieve desired illumination in images, performances, or environments. The word is formed from lisa meaning "additional" and valgustus meaning "illumination" or "lighting." In professional practice it describes deliberate placement and use of extra lights to control exposure, contrast, color, and mood.

Applications include photography and filmmaking, where lisavalgustus is used to fill shadows, balance key light, and maintain consistent exposure when natural light is variable or insufficient. In theatre and stage design, it provides focused illumination on performers and sets and helps sculpt three-dimensional form. In urban design, construction, and safety contexts, it encompasses portable floodlights and work-site lighting to improve visibility during nighttime operations.

Equipment and techniques commonly involve LED panels, tungsten or HMI lamps, softboxes, diffusers, reflectors, and light stands. The color temperature is chosen to match or intentionally contrast with existing light, typically ranging from warm around 2700–3200 K to daylight around 5600 K. Lighting is positioned to control shadows, prevent glare, and minimize noise in the captured image. Power supply, flicker control, and heat management are important considerations, along with safety and regulatory compliance.

Impact and considerations include improved image quality, scene readability, and safety in work environments when used correctly. Poorly planned supplementary lighting can cause color casts, glare, or disorientation, and may require post-production correction.
