Lipidpeptide, commonly referred to as a lipopeptide, is a molecule in which a lipid moiety is covalently linked to a peptide. The resulting amphipathic compound combines a hydrophobic lipid tail with a hydrophilic peptide head, enabling association with biological membranes and, in some cases, self-assembly into micelles or vesicles. Lipidpeptides occur naturally in various organisms, where fatty-acid chains are attached during nonribosomal peptide synthesis or post-translational modification. Common examples include surfactin, iturin, and fengycin families produced by Bacillus species, as well as cyclic lipopeptide antibiotics such as daptomycin and polymyxins, which feature a peptide ring with a fatty acyl tail.
