Linienstile, or line styles, refer to predefined visual patterns used to render lines in two-dimensional graphics. They are used to convey information, distinguish categories, or add emphasis without changing color or thickness. Common linienstile categories include solid lines, dashed lines, dotted lines, dash-dotted lines, and double or triple lines. Less common patterns include wavy, zigzag, curved, or textured lines, as well as mixed patterns that combine elements. Each style can be parameterized by line width, color, and the pattern of dashes and gaps, as well as end caps and joins.

In digital graphics, line styles are controlled by stroke properties or linetype definitions. In SVG and CSS, for example, stroke-dasharray defines the dash pattern, while other properties adjust width, color, and line-end shapes. In CAD and similar design environments, linetypes are stored in libraries and can be scaled to keep consistency across drawings. Linienstiles are also essential in cartography, where they help distinguish roads, waterways, political borders, and other features, typically guided by standardized legends. In UI design and technical illustrations, they serve to separate zones, indicate hidden or centerlines, and convey flow or symmetry.
