limfocitar

Limfocitar is an adjective used in Romanian to describe anything related to lymphocytes, the white blood cells central to the adaptive immune system. Limfocite are the cells themselves, including B lymphocytes (limfocite B) and T lymphocytes (limfocite T), as well as natural killer cells that are often discussed in the broader sense of lymphoid lineage. The term limfocitar can be applied to cells with lymphocytic characteristics, to descriptions of immune responses dominated by lymphocytes, or to tissue findings where lymphocytes predominate.

In medical usage, limfocitar appears in phrases such as infiltrat limfocitar, meaning a tissue infiltrate composed mainly of lymphocytes. This type of infiltrate is common in viral infections and various autoimmune or inflammatory conditions. The adjective is also used when noting lymphocytosis, an increase in the number or proportion of lymphocytes in blood or tissue, which can occur in response to infection, certain malignancies of the lymphoid system, or other immune changes.

Histological and clinical distinctions often rely on the relative abundance and morphology of lymphocytes versus other leukocytes, such as neutrophils. Lymphocytes are typically small to medium-sized cells with a relatively large nucleus and scant cytoplasm, and they play a key role in humoral and cell-mediated immunity, including humoral responses by B cells and cellular responses by T cells.
