The AV fistula, created by connecting an artery and a vein, is generally preferred due to its durability and lower risk of complications.

The decision to undergo hemodialysis is made by a medical team, including nephrologists, and is based on the severity of kidney disease and the patient's overall health. While hemodialysis can be life-sustaining, it is not a cure for kidney failure. Patients on hemodialysis often need to follow specific dietary and fluid restrictions and may experience side effects such as fatigue, muscle cramps, and low blood pressure.
