Hémodialyse is a medical treatment that is used to remove waste products and excess fluid from the blood when the kidneys are no longer able to do so effectively. This condition is known as kidney failure or renal failure. During hemodialysis, blood is pumped from the body through a dialyzer, which is an artificial kidney. The dialyzer contains a special filter that removes waste products such as urea and creatinine, as well as excess salt and water from the blood. The cleansed blood is then returned to the body.
Hemodialysis is typically performed in a dialysis center, although some patients can receive treatment at home.
