Levyä is the partitive singular form of the Finnish noun levy, meaning a disc or record. In everyday Finnish, levy commonly refers to a musical album or other round, flat disc used to store sound or data. The term is widely used for vinyl records and has also come to describe other formats such as compact discs (CD-levyt) and, in a broader sense, data discs. The partitive form levyä appears in contexts that describe an indefinite amount or when the object is subject to a verb that governs the partitive, for example kuuntelen levyä (I am listening to a record) or ostan levyä (I am buying a record).

In Finnish music culture, levy is a core term for releases and collections. A single album is often referred to as a levy, and the plural levyt denotes multiple records. The music industry uses phrases such as levy-yhtiö (record label), levyjulkaisu (release of a record), and levykokoelma (record collection). While the meaning remains closely tied to music, the basic sense of levy as a flat circular object extends to other disc formats and storage media in common language.

Formats and production processes reflect the broad sense of levy. Vinyl records, or vinyylilevyt, are manufactured through mastering, lacquer cutting, and pressing to create grooves that encode sound. Packaging, artwork, and liner notes are integral parts of a physical levy release. Beyond audio, the term can also appear in discussions of data storage discs, though in that context more specific terms (such as kiintolevy for a hard drive) are often used. Levy remains a fundamental term in Finnish for describing albums and disc-based media.
