Ledo is a town in the Indian state of Assam. It lies near the region’s eastern frontier and is historically notable as the starting point of the Stilwell Road, also known as the Ledo Road, a World War II supply route to China via Burma.

The Stilwell Road was built between 1942 and 1945 by Allied forces to connect Ledo with northern Burma and, in theory, with Kunming, China. The project involved American, Chinese, and Indian engineers and soldiers working across difficult terrain. While not all sections remained fully serviceable after the war, the route became a symbol of Allied logistics and cooperation. Today, remnants and records of the road attract historians and veterans’ groups, and some segments are accessible to visitors as historical sites.

In contemporary times, Ledo remains a small town that is connected by road and rail networks within Assam. The name Ledo is primarily associated with the town’s wartime role, though it may appear in other place names in the region and can be used as a surname in various cultures.
