The terms Hispanic and Latino can overlap but emphasize different aspects: Hispanic commonly refers to Spanish-speaking origins; Latino/Latina emphasizes geographic origin in Latin America. Brazil, a Portuguese-speaking country, is Latin American but not Hispanic, illustrating the distinction.
