Lasuvad is a fictional ethnolinguistic community described in worldbuilding and speculative anthropology. It is presented as inhabiting the river valleys of the imagined continent of Valara and is used as a case study for linguistic and cultural interaction in a pre-industrial setting. Note: Lasuvad is a constructed concept for narrative and scholarly exercises, not a real-world group.

Etymology and geography: The self-designation lasuvad combines a river-related root in the community’s language with a suffix meaning “people.” The Lasu River valley serves as their core homeland, featuring floodplain agriculture, mixed forests, and a seasonal climate. Settlements are small villages clustered along tributaries, with some bands maintaining semi-nomadic patterns.

Language and culture: The Lasuvad language is described as agglutinative and typically subject–object–verb in word order, with a rich oral literature that includes mythic cycles, songs, and genealogies. Cultural life emphasizes kinship networks, river stewardship, and craft production such as basketry, pottery, and weaving. Social organization centers on extended families and village councils, and musical traditions include flute and drum ensembles.

History and contemporary status: Archaeological and textual sources in the fictional setting place their presence from roughly 600–900 CE. They formed alliances with neighboring groups and experienced periodic influence from migrating powers. In the contemporary narrative, the Lasuvad number around 100,000 and live in an autonomous region within Valara. The language is regarded as endangered, with revitalization efforts described as ongoing.
