Lasitekerrosten, often referred to as layered glass or laminated glass, is a type of safety glass composed of two or more layers of glass bonded together with an interlayer. The most common interlayer material is polyvinyl butyral (PVB), though other materials like ionoplast (IP) and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) are also used. When laminated glass is broken, the interlayer holds the fragments together, preventing them from scattering. This significantly reduces the risk of injury from sharp shards of glass.

The manufacturing process involves placing the glass sheets and the interlayer material together and then subjecting them to heat and pressure in an autoclave. This process fuses the layers, creating a strong and durable bond. The thickness of the glass and interlayer can be varied to achieve different properties, such as enhanced sound insulation, UV filtering, or increased security against impact and penetration.

Laminated glass finds widespread application in various sectors. It is commonly used in automotive windshields due to its safety features and ability to maintain visibility even after breakage. In architecture, it is employed in windows, doors, skylights, and facades where safety, security, or sound reduction is a concern. It is also utilized in balustrades, display cases, and aquarium construction.
