Landskapselement is a term used in landscape architecture, urban planning, and cultural landscape studies to describe a discrete component that contributes to the character, function, or experience of a landscape. The concept covers both natural elements and cultural or built elements. Natural elements include landforms (hills, slopes, plateaus), water features (streams, ponds, wetlands), vegetation (trees, hedges, woodlots), soils, and rock outcrops. Cultural or built elements include buildings, fences, walls, roads, paths, bridges, terraces, land uses, and monuments. Together, these elements form the visual and ecological structure of a landscape and influence factors such as permeability, microclimate, biodiversity, and cultural meaning.

In practice, landskapselement are mapped and analyzed to support planning and design. They are often categorized by origin (natural versus cultural), scale (macro, meso, micro), function (ecological, aesthetic, historical, recreational), or perceptual criteria (visibility, legibility). Inventories and GIS datasets may record location, size, orientation, condition, and interrelationships with adjacent elements. Designers use the concept to compose landscapes, preserve heritage, restore ecosystems, and plan interventions with minimal disruption to existing character.

Common examples include hedgerows and tree belts that organize space and provide habitat; watercourses that shape drainage and scenery; stone walls and fences that define boundaries; informal and formal paths that guide movement; built structures that anchor places within a landscape.
