Landningsklarering, or landing clearance, is an authorization given by air traffic control that allows an aircraft to land at a specific aerodrome on a designated runway. It is a formal step in the landing phase of flight and serves to ensure safe sequencing and separation from other traffic, as well as to confirm that conditions are suitable for landing.

The clearance is typically issued by the tower controller or the approach control unit, depending on the phase of the approach. It is granted when the runway is suitable for landing, the wind and weather conditions are acceptable, and there are no conflicting aircraft on or approaching the runway. The pilot is expected to read back the clearance in many operations, to confirm understanding and compliance.

In practice, landing clearance is normally given when the aircraft is established on the final approach and in a position to land. The controller may say, for example, “cleared to land runway X,” or provide conditional or situational instructions such as “cleared to land runway X with gusts from Y degrees.” If conditions change or conflicts arise, ATC can modify or rescind the clearance, or issue a go-around instruction.

Landing clearances interact with other ATC clearances, such as approach clearances and taxi clearances. They do not relieve pilots from maintaining situational awareness, monitoring weather and runway conditions, or complying with instructions from ATC throughout the landing sequence. In some cases, specific runway occupancy or operational procedures, such as landing and hold short, may accompany the clearance.
