Laminationen is the plural form of lamination in German. In English, lamination refers to the bonding of multiple sheets or layers to form a single material and to the materials produced by that process. The term encompasses a wide range of techniques and products across industries.

The basic process involves arranging sheets—such as wood veneers, metal foils, polymer films, or fabric—in a stack, applying adhesive, and converting the stack under heat and pressure until the layers fuse. Curing times and temperatures depend on the adhesive system and materials used. Laminates can be single-material (homogeneous) or composite, consisting of different layers for functional properties such as strength, insulation, or barrier protection.

Applications include: in electrical engineering, laminated cores for transformers and motors reduce eddy current losses; in construction, laminated timber products such as plywood, LVL, and cross-laminated timber provide structural efficiency; in safety glazing, laminated glass interleaves glass panes with plastic interlayers; in packaging and electronics, laminated films provide moisture and gas barriers; in advanced manufacturing, fiber-reinforced laminates combine fibers with resins for high strength-to-weight ratios.

Variations known as laminated composites use layers of distinct materials (such as carbon fiber-reinforced polymer) to tailor mechanical, thermal, or chemical properties. Potential downsides include risk of delamination if the adhesive bond fails, manufacturing costs, and sensitivity to moisture or temperature if not properly protected.
