Typical laminatebased structures include a face sheet, a core, and an adhesive or binder. Materials range from paper, textiles, and wood veneer to metal foils, glass fibers, or plastic films, often combined with thermosetting resins such as phenolic, melamine, or epoxy. Production usually involves stacking layers, applying adhesive, and consolidating the stack under heat and pressure in a press, though some laminates are formed with low-pressure processes or cold-press curing.

Common applications include high-pressure laminates used for furniture and countertops, plywood and particleboard facades, circuit-board substrates, and protective panels in construction or transportation. Decorative laminates provide surface texture and color, while structural laminates provide stiffness and impact resistance.

Laminatebased materials offer good strength-to-weight ratio, design versatility, and surface durability, but can be vulnerable to moisture ingress if poorly sealed, and delamination can occur under impact or thermal cycling. The environmental footprint depends on resin chemistry and end-of-life options, with recyclability often limited by resin-adhesive bonds.
