The term "broadband" indicates a wide range of frequencies or a wide bandwidth, enabling the transmission of large amounts of data quickly.

There are several types of broadband technologies available. Fiber optic broadband utilizes light pulses to transmit data through thin strands of glass or plastic, offering the highest speeds and reliability. Cable broadband uses the same coaxial cables that deliver cable television, providing a widely available and generally fast connection. DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) broadband transmits data over existing telephone lines, with speeds varying depending on the distance from the local exchange. Fixed wireless broadband uses radio waves to connect to the internet, often deployed in areas where wired infrastructure is limited. Mobile broadband, accessed through cellular networks, provides internet connectivity on mobile devices and can also be used for home internet via hotspots or dedicated modems.
