Käyttökiintiöitä, often translated as usage quotas or limits, are mechanisms used to manage and control the consumption of resources. These quotas are typically implemented in computing and telecommunications environments to ensure fair access, prevent abuse, and manage costs. They can apply to a wide range of resources, including storage space, network bandwidth, processing power, and API calls.

The purpose of usage quotas is multifaceted. Firstly, they promote equitable distribution of limited resources among users or services. Without quotas, a single user or process could potentially consume all available resources, leaving others with none. Secondly, quotas help prevent denial-of-service attacks or accidental overconsumption that could destabilize a system or incur significant financial penalties.
