Kvótakorlátokkal, or quota restrictions, are limitations placed on the quantity of goods or services that can be imported or exported. These are a form of trade barrier used by governments to influence international commerce. Quotas can be applied to specific products or to a country's total trade volume.

The primary purposes of implementing quota restrictions include protecting domestic industries from foreign competition, managing supply and demand within a country, or as a tool for international negotiation. For instance, a country might impose quotas on agricultural imports to support its local farmers or to prevent a surge of cheap foreign produce from destabilizing the domestic market. Similarly, quotas can be used to ensure that a certain amount of a product is exported, especially if there is a global shortage.

There are different types of quotas. A fixed quota sets a specific limit on the quantity of a good that can be imported over a given period. A tariff-rate quota, on the other hand, allows a certain quantity of a good to be imported at a lower tariff rate, with a higher tariff applied to any additional imports beyond that limit.

While quotas can offer short-term benefits to specific domestic sectors, they can also lead to higher prices for consumers, reduced choice, and potential retaliatory measures from trading partners. They can also be less transparent and more distortionary than tariffs. Many international trade agreements, such as those under the World Trade Organization, aim to reduce or eliminate the use of quotas.
