The pass through the list is repeated until the list is sorted. The algorithm gets its name from the way smaller or larger elements "bubble" to the top of the list.

The basic idea of bubble sort is to make multiple passes through the list. During each pass, the algorithm compares each pair of adjacent items. If the pair is in the wrong order, it swaps them. This process continues until no swaps are needed, which indicates that the list has been sorted. While easy to understand and implement, bubble sort is generally not efficient for large datasets. Its time complexity is O(n^2) in the worst and average cases, making it one of the slower sorting algorithms. However, in the best case, when the list is already sorted, its time complexity is O(n).
