Kultúrtudomány, often translated as Cultural Studies, is an interdisciplinary field that critically examines cultural practices and their meanings. The primary focus of kultúrtudomány is not on "high culture" but rather on the everyday, popular, and subcultural forms of expression. This includes analyzing television, film, music, fashion, advertising, and digital media, as well as social rituals and identity formations. A central tenet is the understanding that culture is not a neutral or static entity, but rather a site of power relations, social struggle, and ideological contestation.

Key theoretical approaches within kultúrtudomány often engage with concepts such as representation, identity (gender, race, class, sexuality), ideology, hegemony, and post-colonialism. Scholars in this field seek to understand how cultural texts and practices produce, reproduce, and challenge social inequalities. The field is characterized by its critical stance towards dominant cultural narratives and its commitment to understanding the experiences of marginalized groups.
