ATP-dependent chromatin remodelers are another important group that use the energy from ATP hydrolysis to physically reposition, eject, or restructure nucleosomes, the basic units of chromatin.

The proper functioning of chromatin modifiers is essential for normal cellular processes, including development, differentiation, and response to environmental cues. Dysregulation of these enzymes has been linked to a variety of diseases, particularly cancer, where aberrant gene expression can drive uncontrolled cell growth and proliferation.
