Koronaarisuonten, also known as coronary arteries, are a critical part of the human circulatory system. They are the blood vessels that supply the heart muscle itself with oxygenated blood. These arteries originate from the aorta, the main artery carrying blood from the left ventricle of the heart to the rest of the body, just above the aortic valve.

There are two main coronary arteries: the left main coronary artery and the right coronary artery. The left main coronary artery is short and soon branches into two major vessels: the left anterior descending artery and the left circumflex artery. The left anterior descending artery supplies blood to the front and bottom of the left ventricle and the front of the septum. The left circumflex artery supplies blood to the back and sides of the left ventricle and the left atrium. The right coronary artery typically supplies the right atrium, the right ventricle, and parts of the left ventricle and septum.

Blockages or narrowing in these arteries, often due to the buildup of plaque (atherosclerosis), can lead to serious health conditions such as angina (chest pain) and myocardial infarction (heart attack).
