Kontaktlæreren is a teacher role in several Scandinavian school systems, notably in Norway and Denmark, referring to the teacher who has a fixed group of students and acts as their primary point of contact at the school. The kontaktlærer is responsible for the overall welfare and progress of the students in their class, coordinating with subject teachers, school counselors, and parents.

In practice, the kontaktlærer maintains regular contact with families, through meetings, messages, and phone or email. They organize and participate in parent–teacher conferences, monitor attendance, and follow the social and academic development of students. They may conduct regular student conferences to set goals, discuss study habits, and address problems early. They coordinate accommodations and support for students with special education needs, in collaboration with other educational professionals.

The role is distinct from individual subject teachers; while subject teachers focus on specific disciplines, the kontaktlærer provides holistic guidance for the class, helps with transitions between grades, and fosters a constructive learning environment. They may advise on course choices, study skills, and personal development, and work to ensure inclusion and positive classroom culture.

The position can vary by country and school. In many places, the term corresponds to what is called a homeroom teacher, tutor, or class advisor in other education systems. The concept reflects an emphasis on ongoing student support and effective communication between school and home.
