Konstellaatiot, often translated as constellations, are patterns of stars as seen from Earth that have been given names and significance by various cultures throughout history. These patterns are not typically formed by stars that are physically close to each other in space, but rather by their apparent proximity from our vantage point. Ancient peoples observed the night sky and identified these celestial groupings, often associating them with mythology, deities, animals, or objects.

The study and mapping of constellations have been a part of astronomy for millennia. Different cultures have developed their own distinct sets of constellations, reflecting their unique mythologies and worldviews. However, many of the constellations recognized today have roots in ancient Greek and Babylonian traditions, which were later adopted and standardized by astronomers.

In modern astronomy, constellations serve as a convenient way to divide the celestial sphere into manageable regions.
